The Little Athlete - Volume 7 Special News (February 2008)

Regional Championship - Port Hacking, NSW - 16/17 February 2008

From the Region championship that was held at Port Hacking on the 16/17 February, Helensburgh LA had 4 athletes going through to the State championship (only the first 3 in all finals are qualified for State).

These are:

  • Timothy Burgmann (U9B) who finished 1st in the 70 m with 10.4 sec (he did the same thing last year too) and 2nd in the 100 m with 15.0 sec;
  • Jaime Cottrell-Dormer (U/10G) who finished 3rd at the 800 m with 2-49.3 sec (she did the same thing last year too);
  • Samuel McNaughton (U/10B) who also came 3rd in the 800 m with 2-39.7 sec (he did the same thing last year too) and 2nd in the 1500 m with 5-13.4 sec;
  • Sarah Bowden (U14G) who finished 3rd in Javelin with 25.4 m.

We also had Luke Taylor (U/8B) winning Gold in the 60 m Hurdles, but the Region championship is as far as U/8's can go.

Eight of our competing athletes also reached the finals in their events, most of them achieving personal bests as they did so.

These are as follow:

  • Timothy Burgman (U/9B): 4th in 200 m with31.8 sec;
  • Jaime Cottrell-Dormer (U10G): 8th in 400 m with 2-49.3 sec;
  • Jaime Cottrell-Dormer (U10G): 4th in High Jump with 1.17 m;
  • Samuel McNaughton (U10/B): 4th in High Jump with 1.22 m;
  • Christie Picken (U11/B): 6th in High Jump with 1.25 m;
  • Zoe Dublewicz (U12/G): 8th in High Jump with 1.30 m;
  • Elona Rey-Costa (U12/G): 8th in Shot Put with7.84 m;
  • Finn Dublewicz (U14B): 8th in Shot Put with 9.19 m.

Well done runners, jumpers and throwers! Congatulations to all involved!
